On Friday, May 4, we hosted our 6thannual Keith Ingram Memorial Golf Tournament, in less than desirable weather conditions from quite a rainstorm!

Just as we faced an unwanted storm at the most inopportune time, those facing cancer understand this far too well. While the rain impeded the tournament round, the event still accomplished the main goals-a great contribution towards providing support to those fighting cancer and wonderful camaraderie that brought a bit of sunshine to the rainy day.

The 19 teams and 106 players registered for the tournament got to enjoy a golf clinic conducted by PGA legend Marty Fleckman. Players also got to visit with former PGA Tour winner Jacky Cupit, and other fellow PGA professionals Homero Blancas, Dick Goetz, Babe Hiskey, and Roy Pace. Lunch on the driving range also included some fantastic golf prizes presented by Pat Wheeler, and golf vouchers generously donated by Cascades.

Most importantly, Cancer Foundation for Life®raised over $50,000 that will directly impact the lives of thousands of cancer patients through its FitSteps for Life®program! FitSteps is available to all adult cancer patients and is free for the lifetime of the patient. Through mentorship and motivation, patients find strength, improved mobility, restored hope, independence, and better psychological function to assist them throughout their cancer journey. Our mission is to provide them with the resources to enjoy the best quality of life possible.

Established as a community-based program, FitSteps is available to all physician-referred patients regardless of type or stage of cancer, degree of disability, or position in the cancer care continuum. Exercise Specialists prescribe individualized exercise plans tailored to each patient’s needs and cancer-related symptoms. The patient is able to increase their physical activity in a safe and monitored environment, yielding positive outcomes of increased survival, increased treatment effectiveness, reduced treatment side effects, and improved overall quality of life.

It is through generous donations, sponsorships, and the success of events such as this that help us continue to provide FitSteps free for all patients. We sincerely appreciate all who braved the storm to make this event such a success. Together, we are helping those with cancer face their storm.
